Key Passage: One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on Him to listen to the word of God. He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon (Peter), its owner, to push it out into the water. Luke 5:1-3 Key Verse: When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” Luke 5:4 Jesus doesn’t give out impossible commands Key Passage: When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught,... Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” Luke 5:8-9 Key Verse: Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear My voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Revelation 3:20 4 Ways To Deepen a Friendship With Jesus: 2. Let Him Know. Key Verse: Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:16 Key Passage: Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because My Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. Matthew 16:17-18 4 Ways To Deepen a Friendship With Jesus: 3. Let Him Speak. Key Verse: But Peter took Him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. “Heaven forbid, Lord,” he said. “This will never happen to you!” Matthew 16:22 Key Verse: Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to Me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.” Matthew 16:23 Key Verse: “Peter, let Me tell you something. Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know Me.” Luke 22:34b Key Verse: Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” John 21:3 Key Passage: At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who He was. 5 He called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied. John 21: 4-5 Key Verse: Then He said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. John 21: 6 Key Verse: When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore. John 21:7b Key Verse: After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love Me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter replied, “you know I love you.” “Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him.
