Key Verse: Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. Luke 15:1 Key Verse: All have sinned and fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23 Truth #2: Jesus refuses to crop out anyone who wants to come. Key Verse: But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” Luke 15:2 Truth #3: Jesus zooms in and loves the real me- flaws and all. Key Passage: So Jesus told them this story: “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Luke 15:3-4 Key Verse: Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? Luke 15:4 Key Verse: And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. Luke 15:5 Key Verse: When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ Luke 15:6 Key Verse: In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away! Luke 15:7 Truth #4: Jesus calls us to zoom in on the brother who needs help. Key Verse: My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, James 5:19 Key Verse: “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” Luke 15:2 Key Verse: “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear My voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Revelations 3:20 Key Passage: Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He gave up His divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Philippians 2:6-8 Key Passage: I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices His life for the sheep. A hired hand will run when he sees a wolf coming. He will abandon the sheep because they don’t belong to him and he isn’t their shepherd. And so the wolf attacks them and scatters the flock. The hired hand runs away because he’s working only for the money and doesn’t really care about the sheep. “I am the good shepherd; I know My own sheep, and they know Me, just as My Father knows Me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice My life for the sheep…” John 10:11-15 Key Passage: That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup. For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself. 1 Corinthians 11:28-29 Key Passage: On the night when He was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then He broke it in pieces and said, “This is My body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way, He took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and His people—an agreement confirmed with My blood. Do this in remembrance of Me as often as you drink it.” For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until He comes again. 1 Corinthians 11:23b-26 Discussion Questions: 1.
