In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock... Genesis 4:2-5 Continued Verse: The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering He did not look with favor… Genesis 4:2-5 Key Verse: but on Cain and his offering He did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. Genesis 4:5 Ask yourself: Am I controlling the temperature of the room I’m in with my anger? Key Passage: Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. Genesis 4:6-8 Ask yourself: Why am I angry? Key Passage: “In your anger do not sin” : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Ephesians 4:26-27 Key Verse: Be angry, and do not sin. Ephesians 4:26 (NKJV) 3 Types of Anger: 1. Protective Anger 2. Purposeful Anger 3. Problematic Anger Ask yourself: Am I misdirecting my anger at someone else? Key Passage: What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. James 4:1-3 Key Verse: Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. James 1:19 Key Verse: Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. James 1:20 Discussion Questions: 1. What do you feel like God is saying to you through this message? 2.
