7-16-23 Setlist: Glory to Glory What He's Done Turn Your Eyes Tremble Sermon Notes: Key Passage: As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind. But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:35-40 1. Remember the Instructions. Key Verse: As evening came, Jesus said to His disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” Mark 4:35 Key Verse: Every word of God proves true. Proverbs 30:5 Key Verse: Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Hebrews 10:23 2. Have the right people in the boat. Key Verse: Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion… Mark 4:38a The peace He had on the inside was greater than the storm and chaos on the outside. Key Verse: "Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; John 14:27 Key Verse: “I will lie down and fall asleep in peace because you alone, Lord, let me live in safety.” Psalm 4:8 5. Don’t panic. Key Verse: The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Mark 4:38b Key Verse: …in this life you will have many trials and sorrows. John 16:33a Being a follower of Jesus does not mean that there won't be storms in life. 6. Call for help. Key Verse: When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Mark 4:39 It wasn’t the storm that woke Jesus up, it was the voice of His disciples crying out. Prayer needs to be our first response not our last resort. Key Verse: If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny who he is. 2 Timothy 2:13 A word from God will always do more than our “doing”. Key Verse: Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:40 Discussion Questions: 1. What do you feel like God is saying to you through this message? 2. What can you work on this Summer to get closer to God? 3. Are you in a storm right now? How can you give it to God and let Him help you? 4. Which point really spoke to you during this message? How can you apply it to your life?
