Managing Meltdowns (Part 1: I Think I'm About To Break)
• Series: Managing Meltdowns
8-6-23 Setlist: My Testimony Run To The Father Trust In God It Is Well Stay Strong Sermon Notes: “A meltdown is when a person acts unexpectedly, in response to something they are experiencing emotionally, that causes them to engage behaviorally in a way that is sabotaging their life or someone else’s.” Key Verse: Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23 Key Passage: When Ahab got home, he told Jezebel everything Elijah had done, including the way he had killed all the prophets of Baal. So Jezebel sent this message to Elijah: “May the gods strike me and even kill me if by this time tomorrow I have not killed you just as you killed them.” Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Beersheba, a town in Judah, and he left his servant there. Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.” Then he lay down and slept under the broom tree. But as he was sleeping, an angel touched him and told him, “Get up and eat!” 1 Kings 19:1-5 Key Passage: Then the Lord said to Elijah, “Go to the east and hide by Kerith Brook, near where it enters the Jordan River. Drink from the brook and eat what the ravens bring you, for I have commanded them to bring you food.” 1 Kings 17:2-4 1. Sometimes your provision is on the other side of instruction. God is not on your payroll, you are on His. 2. God speaks raven. God knows how to get through to whatever has what you need. “Not everyone God uses to bless you can be trusted.” 3. Keep your eyes on the source, not the resource. “When it comes to God’s being God, He asks for exclusivity. In every other area He just asks for priority.” • We need rest to replenish our soul. “More responsibility requires more replenishment.” • We need Elisha’s who don’t allow us to live in isolation. Discussion Questions: 1. What do you feel like God is saying to you through this message? 2. How can you start letting God help you manage your meltdowns? 3. Which point really spoke to you during this message? How can you apply it to your life?
