Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. James 3:2 Key Passage: When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts… James 3:3-5a Key Verse: but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. James 3:8 1. Words are powerful Key Verse: The tongue has the power of life and death… Proverbs 18:21 Key Verse: Do everything without grumbling or arguing, Philippians 2:14 Key Passage: Like a maniac shooting flaming arrows of death is one who deceives their neighbor and says, “I was only joking!” Proverbs 26:18-19 Key Verse: Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Key Verse: My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, James 1:19 2. Your words reveal who you really are Key Verse: A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Luke 6:45 "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt." Key Verse: Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent. Proverbs 17:28 A person with a harsh tongue has a bitter heart. A person with a negative tongue has a sad heart. A person with a boasting tongue has an insecure heart. Key Verse: Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
